More South African First World War veterans including SACS educated Flight Lieutenant Andrew W Beauchamp-Proctor VC DSO MC DFC, and Captain Samuel Kinkead DSO DSC and Bar DFC and Bar, a product of Jeppe Boys High in Johannesburg, may have become “Air Officers” had they not been killed in flying accidents. Captain Kinkhead is the only South African airman whose full-length portrait can be found in the august company of Sir Winston Churchill and others in the Royal Air Force Club’s impressive Churchill Bar.
