Not at Home for Christmas

Another early “POW” with a South African connection, 31-year-old Flight Lt GFA Skelton, shot down during a patrol operation off the Dutch Coast the previous day, was hospitalized for several months after being captured and although his “POW” camp is not identified, easily confused with Stalag III “POW” Flight Lt Albert Edward Skelton.

Not at Home for Christmas

Australian born Air Commodore GFA Skelton OBE who died in 1985 was educated at Parktown Boys High in Johannesburg. Commissioned in 1930, he married Karin Rosenius the daughter of a Swedish physician in 1935. Skelton was one of more than 4 100 Allied “POW’s” whose return to Britain in October 1943 was enabled by a repatriation agreement.
