Against Unfavourable Odds
Pilot Officer Johannes Roelof Stephanus Oelofse also 23-years-old, was Johannesburg born and educated at Potchefstroom Boys High School. He commissioned weeks before war was declared, joined No 43 Squadron as a Hurricane pilot on July 1st and was shot down and killed near the Isle of Wight on August 8th 6.
