An overloaded No 102 Squadron Whitley transporting equipment and ammunition, crashed on take–off from RAF Catterick on October 18th killing the seven RAF airmen on board including recently married 27- year -old Pilot Officer Reginald Arthur Morton Luckman, a South African who commissioned in 1937 and joined the Squadron in 1938 5.
